SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS TO FOLLOW

Social Media is a warren for negativity, and making us feel bad about ourselves. A lot of advice tells us to stop using social media as much as possible, and whilst this is of course excellent advice, it is not always that easy for many of us, especially when times are hard. Instead, try to only follow accounts that boost your mood, make you feel better about yourself or make you smile.

Babaroo Boxes – Lorna is a Grimsby-based business spreading positivity and kindness through letterbox gifts. Her cheerful nature and funny reels are even further reasons to give her a follow.

Art, Anxiety and Me – Run by local artist Sarah Palmer, this is her 2024 Gap Year creating work around the theme of art and wellbeing.

Eve Leoni Art – Eve is another local artist, based in London, her positivity and energy shine through in her local and theatre-inspired artwork, and her amazing personality.

The Happy News – Run by Emily Coxhead, The Happy News celebrates news stories that are positive and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Sugar and Sloth – Sugar and Sloth offers tools needed to help you cope with anxiety, overwhelm and ADHD, including self-care stationery. Brought to you by cute little characters.

Katie Abey – Katie is an illustrator with yellow hair, who encourages feelings and being weird.

Sibling Grief Club– This is a very personal one for me and is a page designed to help those of us who lost siblings in adulthood.

Anxiety Fitness – Peter is very candid about his experiences with anxiety and panic, as he takes us on his own personal and relatable journey.

APPS

Better Help – Better Help is the perfect solution for anyone struggling to access traditional therapy. It is quite pricey, however in comparison to the cost of regular weekly sessions, it could save you money.

If you struggle with face-to-face or phones, there’s the option to talk to your therapist by instant messaging, which is great.

During the sign-up process, you can choose the type of therapist you work with, and you have full control so if you don’t feel that things are working with a therapist, you can request to change.

You can use better help both on a desktop or using an app.

Calm – Calm places the tools you need to take care of your mental health, in the palm of your hand. From daily meditations to ASMR and sleep stories to calming music. Personalise your plans to help you with everything from anxiety to stress.

Headspace – Headspace is perfect if you’re keen to take action to prioritise your mental health, helping you to achieve better sleep as well as meditation.

Happy Place – The Happy Place app is an extension of Fearne Cotton’s popular podcast (see the Podcast section below). It was created to give people the space to slow down, show gratitude and spend time focusing on their mental wellbeing.
