When I first started laying the roots for setting up Letters from Poppy, as a business, it felt important to me to get envelopes that screamed quality. It might seem silly to put so much thought and energy into something as simples the envelopes, however, I wanted the letters to be more than just a letter. I wanted them to feel special.
We all know that first impressions matter, and the envelope is the first thing you notice when you receive a Letter from Poppy.
But why yellow?
Anyone who knows me, and my other business Made in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, might think I chose yellow because it was already my business branding colour. However, I actually never intended the branding to be yellow at all.
My original intention had actually been for warm and comforting tones of pinks and purples.
However, when I was looking for envelopes, I fell in love with the way these ones were designed (with a “butterfly” fastening, meaning that they could be resealed as needed), and the yellow was the colour that leapt out of me the most.

The Psychology of Yellow
I’m a big believer that colours have a powerful effect on our emotions and yellow is one that I immediately associated with sunshine, happiness and positivity. It’s a colour that makes me feel happy, which makes sense because studies have proven that the colour yellow can help to lift moods, reduce stress and even encourage creativity.
This absolutely reflects perfectly what I wanted to convey about my letters.
When someone receives a Letter from Poppy, I want the initial reaction to be one that makes the recipient smile. I want them to think cheerfully, “Oh! What’s this?” and open their letter with a sense of optimism that will help to boost their mood, even before they get to the letter.

A Colour That Connects Us
No matter if you are sending a letter to yourself or to a loved one, the yellow envelope is a symbol of encouragement and connection.
It might seem small, but it is a meaningful detail that makes the experience of receiving a Letter from Poppy even more special.

So, next time you see that yellow envelope, I want you to take a deep breathe, find a quiet moment, and open your letter knowing that inside, you will find words intend to uplift, encourage and support you.
