An Open Letter to Royal Mail

Dear Royal Mail,

There have been stories in the news over the past few weeks that you are prioritising parcels over letters, and for many people letters are not arriving as quickly as they should be.

The price of a stamp continues to skyrocket and yet the service you provide does not match it.

Letters might not be as popular as they once were, and there is absolutely no denying that parcels are important. However, please don’t dismiss letters as if they don’t deserve to be treated with respect.

They might not seem much to your shareholders, however…

When a letter is written, a person has sat down and spent time deciding what they want to say. It’s not a quick response like you’d get from typing a text message or even an email. A letter takes more time and more patience to articulate words, feelings and emotions. Letters are deeply personal and for the person receiving them, they can mean the absolute world.

Do not be disenchanted into believing that letters are dead, because they most definitely are not.

People are tired of the fast-paced attitude of an increasingly online life, and are craving methods of slowing down.

You have the power to embrace and engage with this growing trend.

Love,
The Letter Writers x
